Welcome to the Litany Of Wild Graces Blog! Here I will share with you the daily miracles that I witness as I walk my forest paths. You will meet copper-leafed beeches, tunneling worms, the song-dog’s melody, blue heron and autumn’s crickets. My wish is that these poems and songs to the incarnate deity will inspire you to unplug, step out the door and encounter the other-than-human beings who are your neighbors and close-kin.
Poem #1
Bees are astonishing creatures, in that they do not exist singularly! Each bee acts as an essential part of the unified “being” which is the bee-hive. A hive is a “super-organism”, like many fungi, like coral and forests….even like our own bodies which are comprised of countless individual aspects choreographed into the person we call “I" And the unified multiplicity of the hive is also part of a larger super-organism which is the local eco-system it is “nested” within. All of creation exists within Nesting Circles of Belonging. When we become bees…… here is the poem:
A Salute to Nations
when we become bees
we will know
self as sunlight
flowers
we will catch
bio-oscillations
~ the perception of others ~
ruffling through our wings
in the green light of
appalachian forests
other-than-human
nations convene for
ceremony
pageantry
gift-giving
prayer
wild grapevine
bows down
to touch sacred earth
troupes of
translucent indian pipe
are ceremonial
ghost dancers
proud mullein push
new velvet leaves
through leaf litter
wear petal crowns
forest raspberry canes
are lavender flags
carried in late afternoon light
a republic of
tubers
seeds
mushrooms
arrive from far away tribes
bringing gifts to give away
as bees bring sweet medicine
for all.
benevolence between species
~ our ancient heritage ~
will be a lived-understanding,
reality practiced body to body
at last we will come home
to the secret of love
hidden in the plain sight
of our own dna
